With Government plans to phase out all sales of petrol and diesel powered cars by the year 2030, the number of electric vehicles (EV’s) on Irish roads is set to rise dramatically over the coming years. Having EV charging stations for home is proving to be a big advantage for EV owners. Not only do you have the convenience of being able to charge your car overnight from right outside your own home but the cost is only a fraction of that of diesel or petrol cars.
What Grants Are Available for EV Charging Units?
Since the beginning of 2018, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) is offering government funded grants of up to €300 towards the cost of buying and installing an electric vehicle home charger unit.
To be eligible for the grant you must:
- have the charger connected to your fuse board
- provide the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) from your electricity bill to facilitate confirmation of your home’s location
*It’s important to note that your home cannot be associated with a previous EV vehicle grant and charge point offer.
